Diet: Mostly algae eaters in the wild but they do well on a variety of normal flakes and pellets. We have been feeding them mostly high-algae gel foods like our Plecos.
Habitat: Aside from needing a good amount of minerals in the water (and ideally some salinity as well but not full brackish) to really do well, they're generally easy to please. They're extremely friendly and personable, and will come and beg at the glass when they see you.
Breeding: They generally need to be a good year or so old to breed and females get really quite enormous. The fry are small and born with their umbilical cords attached due to the unique way these Livebearers carry and birth their young. They're quite fragile for a few days after birth. Adults generally leave them alone but they do best with lots of floating cover - we have found floating cork bark tubes, plants and twigs seem to work perfectly. If there's high flow with no areas of respite it can stop new ones growing out.
