No fish meal, no additives, no fillers. Just nutrition straight from nature.  

This mixture is formulated for carnivorous plecos, Corydoras, community fish, Betta, surface hunting monster fish (that may eat more insects, such as Oscars and Arowana) and South and Central American Cichlids. 

Made with 50% Crickets, 20% Daphnia, Black Soldier Fly "chips," seaweed, spirulina and containing just a teeny tiny touch of whole 100% cocoa powder ("raw" cacao) this mixture comes out looking just like cookie dough. 

Why cocoa powder? Well, it's native to the Amazon where cocoa has been an intrinsic part of life there for thousands of years. 

During testing we found that the fish go bananas for the taste of it - catfish actually have more taste buds than humans! It makes a lot of sense that the fish would have cocoa pods falling into the river as well as other less direct means such as eating insects that have had a nibble. 

And it honestly just makes it smell nicer.

We recommend feeding Pleco Pops! © as part of a healthy varied diet from a mixture of foods - although we know this is amazing nutrition for your fish, variety is the spice of life! 

 

Top Tips!

For fish that need to gain weight, mix it up quite strong. This will make a very firm gel.

It doesn't dissolve in water very quickly at all - if there's still some left then the fish haven't eaten all of it, so check your portion sizes. 

It does need a good mix - but stir gently to avoid mixing air into it. Use a spatula, spoon or even just a butter knife will work just fine. 

If bubbles appear it might float - give the bottom of the container a good firm tap on a hard surface to get all the air to the top which you can then skim off and/or pop once cooled. 

You can mix up a thin slab that's more diluted as more of a slow release to keep grazing species with a high metabolism busy for hours.

You can freeze the mixture, however once defrosted the texture is a bit different. It's perfectly safe to feed but we recommend feeding it while still frozen. It will float and then sink relatively quickly but they hold their shape better than defrosting and then trying to get them in the tank. Make sure it's portioned out before defrosting - don't thaw and re-freeze, it will go to mush.

Crickets ~ These need less processing than other insects, are rich in protein and very low in fat. 

Daphnia ~ Found in freshwater habitats across the globe, Daphnia eat floating algae particles and are part of the diet of many fishes. They are a great source of fibre. 

Algae ~ Spirulina for more vitamins! 

Seaweed and a tiny pinch of 100% Cocoa powder, raw unfermented cacao. 

Worried about the copper content in raw cacao? In our mixture it works out as around 0.044 micrograms (44 nanograms) per bag. The dose that's toxic to fish is more than around 0.15 milligrams per litre ~ so Crickie-Dough is a few thousand times below the limit. There's a lot more copper in fish meal, salmon and other seafood.

How do I make it?

Simply mix up with some boiling water from the kettle to achieve a smooth, gummy-bear like gel food that's sure to bring all of your plecos out of their hiding places! 

We recommend mixing one teaspoon to 30-60ml of water depending on desired consistency. The gelling reaction needs calcium so if you live in a soft water area you may need a bit more powder to get it to set. 

Once mixed, tap firmly on a hard surface to get all the bubbles out of it. 

Once mixed up you can pour the gel into moulds or other containers. Store in the fridge - it will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks.
